The Taming of the Shrew

The Lyric

Baptista Minola is seeking to sell off her son Katherine to the highest bidder. Cue an explosive battle of the sexes in this electrically charged love story.

Justin Audibert (Snow in Midsummer, The Jew of Malta) turns Shakespeare’s fierce, energetic comedy of gender and materialism on its head to offer a fresh perspective on its portrayal of hierarchy and power, in The Taming of the Shrew.

The RSC returns to Plymouth with a season of exhilarating Shakespeare, direct from Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Opening the season is Shakespeare’s dark comedy, Measure for Measure. Directed by RSC Artistic Director, Gregory Doran, this intense and compelling production is shockingly relevant for today.

Following this, an imaginative new take on Shakespeare’s riotous comedy, As You Like It, direct by Kimberley Sykes. Come on a journey of laughter, romance, and self-discovery.

Completing the season is The Taming of The Shrew, directed by Justin Audibert, the ultimate battle of the sexes is turned on its head in a fresh portrayal of gender politics.

Join us for one, join us for all. It’s going to be quite a season.
