The Drum

There’s summin strange goin’ up down Bosanko Farm…

Stanley Bray is hanging donkeys. This is odd behaviour. Even for Ventongimps.

He can’t stop his bizarre addiction until he understands why. Until then, he must keep his house-bound wife Joy in the dark, and prying villagers off his land. Easier said than done when Slaughterhouse Sally comes calling, Grizzler’s pasties in hand, determined to let bygones be bygones…

But when Bray discovers the reason behind his actions lie with a playwright called Carl Grose, things take a very strange turn indeed…

A dark, surreal new comedy from the writer of The Grinning Man, Kneehigh’s The Tin Drum, Grand Guignol and Horse Piss For Blood.

49 Donkeys Hanged is a promenade performance where audiences are able to stand and move about the space, following the action as it happens around them. The performance remains fully wheelchair accessible. If you have any particular accessibility requirements, please contact our Box Office on 01752 267222.

★★★★1/2 This is surely going to be a hit for Theatre Royal Plymouth and one of the most brilliantly entertaining and original productions of the year.

Writers Response Night

49 Donkeys Response Night

We invited Playwrights from across the South West to attend the opening performance of 49 Donkeys Hanged. The writers were then given 48 hours to write a short play in response to the show. This week a selection of these short plays will be staged following the Performance on Thursday the 5th of April.

We were delighted with the scope and creativity of the responses and are very pleased to be staging the following Short plays:

DRECKLY by Sam Parker
SUPERMAN DRINKS by Mich Sanderson
DANGLE by Alex Robins

The staged readings will take place following the performance on Thursday the 5th of April and are open to anyone watching the evening’s performance.
