Conductor: Michael Seal
Clarinet: Emma Johnson
An unofficial anthem for the Hungarian revolution, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture is aptly named; the music based on the life of the Count of Egmont. Supposedly written to rival a student’s concerto, Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto is striking in its angelic conversation between orchestra and soloist, and is one of the most recognisable pieces of classical music today. The lyrical slow movement is simply sublime.
