The World at Your Feet was a celebration of the richness and variety of Plymouth’s history and its role in relation to migration to other parts of the world.
The project was one of Plymouth’s biggest ever participation events and young people were able to get involved in every aspect of the event – from the initial concepts, research, acting and dance workshops, creating scripts and scores and finally the spectacle itself.
This project was part of Plymouth’s contribution to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. More than 70 performers from the Theatre Royal Plymouth Young Company, The Barbican Theatre’s Apprentice Companies and Plymouth Music Zone took part in the massive site specific performance at The Royal William Yard in July 2012.
As part of this project there was also a city wide schools dance tour where youth dance companies around the city created dance pieces inspired by the themes of The World at Your Feet to perform at schools around the city and at the big screen in the city centre for Big Dance Weekend.
This Plymouth City Council led project involved many of the leading arts providers in the city including: The Barbican Theatre, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Attik Dance, Plymouth Dance, and Plymouth Music Zone, Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery.Tweet
