PlayLAB is a festival of new and experimental work, taking place in The Lab in February 2019. PlayLAB is a paid platform for Directors to test and develop new ideas with support from the Theatre Royal Plymouth.
We are looking for directors with exciting new ideas to develop and stage a new short play in collaboration with one of the following groups:
• Plymouth Conservatoire Students- Acting Company
• Plymouth Conservatoire Students- Devising Company
• People’s Company and Community members aged 25+
• Young Company 14-18s
Successful directors will be paid a freelance fee of £1250 to develop and rehearse a 20 minute short play between Monday 14th of Jan – Sunday 17th Feb. A minimum of 35hrs rehearsal time will be made available to you over the 5 week period. We are looking for bold and experimental new ideas.

Festival Run 20th – 23rd February
Please note that during tech/dress days you will be called on either Monday 18th February or Tuesday 19th February. All companies will be called on Wednesday 20th February.
Rehearsal schedules will consist of one regular 3hr weekday evening rehearsal and one 4 hr rehearsal on either Saturday or Sunday. Weekday rehearsal slots will fall on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings.
To apply, please submit a short application outlining what your idea is, which group you would like to work with and what approach you would take to developing your short play. Ideas should be for a black box production lasting no more than 20 minutes, with a cast of up to 6 people. We are particularly interested in directors looking to develop/stage new writing and directors interested in devising and co-authorship.
Please send us a statement no longer than 1 side of A4 with the following info.
• Your name and contact details
• A current directing/ performance making CV
• Which group you are interested in working with and why
• Your idea for a short piece
• An extract of text if applicable (7 pages max)
• Your regular, preferred availability for a weeknight and weekend day i.e. Monday nights and Sunday afternoons
