We’re coming round the final bend of The Kneebone Cadillac production week, the half hour call for our second preview has just come over the Tannoy. After 5 days exploring Bob Bailey’s beautiful set and Andy Purves and Dom Coyote’s rich palette of light and sound we are still rehearsing.
Things change in front of an audience. Props are made, and props are cut; costumes come and go. Things go wrong, things are fixed and we rework moments changed by their new context. Constantly cutting and pasting, we push our script to its limits.
It’s a hectic time, of course, occasionally a stressful time. The race is on. We can do a full costume change in under 45 seconds, boots and all. In the last leg of rehearsals every member of the team is working at full tilt and the cast and company maintain incredible focus, determination and dedication.
Things are coming together one piece at a time, and the Kneebone Cadillac roars to life.
Maddy and Phylis are on the start line: there’s everything to play for, and everything to lose
The Kneebone Cadillac runs at Theatre Royal Plymouth until Saturday 1st December. More information and tickets can be found here.
