New Production and Technical Director for Theatre Royal

The Theatre Royal Plymouth today announced the appointment of David Miller as its new Production and Technical Director. David takes up this post with immediate effect.

David trained as an electrical engineer before entering the theatre as an Assistant Stage Manager at the Victoria Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent in 1984. In 1991 David moved into production management and has worked with Bristol Old Vic, Spectrum Communications and the Colourscape Music Festival. Since 1994 David has worked with the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama as Lecturer and Production Supervisor and is currently External Examiner for the new MA in Stage Management. In 1996 David moved to Hong Kong and spent 4 years as production manager for the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. In 2000 David joined the Theatre Royal Plymouth as Production Manager, and since September 2009 has been Acting Director of Production.

On being appointed to his new role, David Miller said: “I’m delighted to be joining the senior management team at such an exciting, yet challenging time for the Theatre Royal. Having worked here for the last eight years as Production Manager I am now in a position where I can contribute more strategically to the future of the organisation while ensuring that the high standards our audiences and co-producers have come to expect are maintained.”

The Theatre Royal’s Chief Executive, Adrian Vinken OBE, said: “During his time at the Theatre Royal David has learned a lot and matured professionally to the point where he was very much ready to take on this complex and challenging leadership role for our company. We wish him every success in this next phase of his career.”
