It may only be April but already a record number of 20,000 tickets have been sold for the Theatre Royal Plymouth’s forthcoming spectacular pantomime, Cinderella!
This cast of this year’s bumper show will be led by Lesley Joseph as the Fairy Godmother. The most popular pantomime of them all will be brought magically to life from page to stage in an extravagant production complete with an abundance of comedy, fabulous costumes, stunning sets and amazing special effects.
Lesley Joseph has starred in countless plays and musicals as well as numerous television programmes. However, she is best known for her appearances as the neighbour from hell, Dorian Green, in the hugely successful television series, Birds of A Feather and as Rachel Culgrin in Night and Day.
Matt Slack, who was a huge hit with Theatre Royal panto audiences last year as Smee in Peter Pan, plays the role of Buttons and Laura Evans from the hit children’s television programme The Basil Brush Show plays Cinderella. Martin Ramsdin and David Robbins are the Ugliest Sisters that Plymouth has ever seen and have one of the largest wardrobes in pantoland – with at least 10 costume changes each per performance!
Produced by Qdos Pantomimes, the largest pantomime producer in the world, and staged by the same team that presented last year’s Peter Pan, Cinderella will have the Theatre Royal’s hallmark of quality entertainment and value for money for all the family.
Michael Harrison, Managing Director of Qdos Pantomimes, said:
“We have put together a terrific cast for Plymouth audiences, lead by the talented Lesley Joseph and the hilarious Matt Slack. No story of Cinderella would be complete without the scene when Cinderella leaves her rags behind and prepares to go to the Prince’s ball. This year’s Theatre Royal pantomime includes a very special visual effect – a flying Pegasus, an animatronic horse which transports Cinderella and her coach to the ball. It’s a real magical and unmissable moment in the show!”
With a record number of people attending the Theatre Royal pantomime in recent years, early booking is advised. If you leave it until Christmas, not even your Fairy Godmother will be able to get you a ticket for South West’s biggest Christmas show!
Cinderella runs at the Theatre Royal from Friday 19 December 2008 to Saturday 24 January 2009. Tickets can be booked on 01752 267222 or online.
