David Ian and Christopher Malcolm are delighted to announce that the World Premiere production of Flashdance – The Musical, based on the Paramount Pictures film will embark on a major national UK tour opening at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on 19 July 2008.
Set in Pittsburgh, USA, Flashdance – The Musical tells the story of 18 year old Alex, a welder by day and ‘flashdancer’ by night, whose dream is to obtain a place at the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy. This unique musical about holding on to your dreams and love against all the odds features an iconic score including “Maniac”, “Manhunt”, “Gloria”, “I Love Rock and Roll” and the Academy Award winning title track “Flashdance – What a Feeling”.
Based on the Paramount Pictures film (Screenplay by Tom Hedley and Joe Eszterhas, story by Tom Hedley) Flashdance – The Musical is written by Tom Hedley and Robert Cary and will be directed by Kenny Leon and choreographed by Arlene Phillips with set and costume design by Paul Farnsworth, lighting design by Jason Taylor and orchestrations and musical supervision by Phil Edwards. The associate director is Stacey Haynes.
