Theatre Royal Plymouth

Set Construction and Assembly

We have a team of highly skilled carpenters and welder/fabricators with extensive experience in set construction in a variety of creative industries.

In the Timber workshop traditional making skills are complemented by expertise in the use of new and innovative materials which enable us to deliver scenery of the highest quality and durability. The Metal workshop can work with steel and aluminium and welcome engineering projects which require creative design solutions. We also work closely with a number of companies to deliver larger scale, more complex engineering and automation projects.

Our 1000 sqm Assembly Space is situated adjoining our engineering/metal work, timber and props workshops. This area is instrumental in allowing us to respond quickly to artistic and technical design issues which arise when developing projects prior to venue delivery. The 10m of clear headroom allows us to fully construct even the largest sets which means they will always leave here in full working order. Every element of the set can be assembled, flown, tested and commissioned in the Assembly Space, well in advance of the first fit up on stage

No project is too big or too small and we pride ourselves on tailoring the needs of the designer to the economic realities of modern touring needs. Our sets are quick and easy to erect and dismantle and offer cost effective solutions to ever tightening budget and time restrictions.
